The early morning didn’t look too promising, with heavy showers, but it turned out to be a gorgeous day later on.
We left Brook Farm at Syston Common heading towards Webb’s Heath, where we turned right. We then took a left at Bridgeyate, soon turning left again into the quieter lanes. We skirted the edge of Wick and passed through Dyrham and Hinton to arrive at the Bull for refreshment. The weather was perfect – sunny with a welcome light breeze – with leafy lanes providing shade here and there. Along much of the route the views were truly beautiful, wide and unspoilt. We could have been in the middle of Devon – how fantastic! We met a number of riding horses at various points, all of whom were amazingly accepting – well, none turned and bolted anyway!
When we arrived at the Bull the horses were tied up in the paddock garden at the back while we had a natter and a welcome drink.
All refreshed we headed back via Pucklechurch and Syston Lane. This part of the drive was busier compared with the almost traffic-free ride out and we tried to let traffic past wherever possible.
We arrived back at about 2.30. After the horses were washed down and attended to we adjourned to the house, where Debbie, who had been gardening while were out, had sausage rolls in the oven and cakes on the table We enjoyed more natter over a cup of tea then we all parted having had a very enjoyable and safe drive.
