BHDC OPEN SHOW REPORT AND RESULTS 25th May 2008 |
Riding Section Report Driving Section Report by Kathryn Dayer Bristol Horse Driving Club held their annual show at a new venue – that of Keynsham Rugby Club’s ground. There the competitors used the beautifully manicured, level turf of the rugby pitches. Despite the early morning heavy rain, which, needless to say, discouraged several competitors from taking part, there was a good turnout across the board. The initial class, Horse or pony under 4 years, was won by the beautiful coloured horse ‘Bobby’ shown by Steve Pearce whilst the Four Years and Over was won by the fantastic traditional cob ‘Aladdin’ shown by Harriet Woods. The overall In hand Championship was awarded to ‘Bobby’ and Steve Pearce. Now the Judge, Mr John Hendy, had the difficult task of deciding which horse would make the best Ride and Drive and eventually his choice went to the stunning Welsh ‘Gwarcoed Black Henry’ shown and ridden by Jackie Bennett. The following class, the Novice Driver was awarded to ‘Little Miss Muffet’ beautifully driven by the young Rebecca Letts. Gwarcoed Black Henry and Jackie Bennett claimed a fascinating Exercise Cart Class, which had the largest entry of the day, whilst the ever youthful Splash driven by a very capable Zoe White, secured the Junior Whip for the second year in succession. After lunch ‘Tyrpentre Daffydd Ddu’ driven by Ann Townsend won the coveted Private Driving Class with ‘Saltmarsh Buccaneer’ and Moya Bangham a truly creditable second. Joyce White with ‘Splash’ successfully negotiated the complicated Pleasure Drive obstacle course designed by Albert Cooper, won the class and also took the Road Drive Class. ‘Tyrpentre Daffydd Ddu’ beautifully driven by Ann Townsend and Moya Bangham’s careful handling of ‘Saltmarsh Buccaneer’ contested the Concours D’Elegance with again Ann Townsend being awarded the honours. Both competitors, turnouts and horses were beautifully and immaculately presented, being worthy credits to their owners.
The overall show Champions (above) were the stunning black Welsh Cob ‘Tyrpentre Daffydd Ddu’ beautifully driven by Ann Townsend with Joyce White and the successful ‘Splash’ worthy Reserve Champions. Well done and thank you to all spectators, competitors, grooms and their helpers for a making this show at a new venue a great success. top Riding Section Report by Kathryn Dayer An amazing number of people arrived to support the Ridden Show despite the adverse weather conditions first thing in the morning. The Best Turned Out was won by Tilly ridden by Georgina Peeke with That’s My Boy and Sophie Thompson a close second. Both horses looked absolutely stunning which gave Judge Maggie Paull a really difficult choice. The following class, Best Horse or Pony was again a difficult choice for Maggie Paull with Summer ridden by Paige Roberts winning the honours from That’s My Boy and Sophie Thompson with Chesam Summer Special ridden by Laura Monks in third place. Martyr Tydfil Ash ridden by Mary Giles was a worthy winner of the Mountain and Moorland Class with Tilly and Georgina Peeke second and Rothiemay Olympus ridden by Lucy Pitman a creditable third. Jessica Lavelle and Brooks Forget Me Not, a smart, bouncy little coloured cob, then began a campaign which other competitors found difficult to match. Together they won four of the remaining seven classes. They won the Coloured Horse or Pony from Summer and Paige Roberts, with Mighty ridden by Georgina Wiltshire in third place, also the Best Condition and the Best Judges Choice from Dilys and Harriet Iles, with Summer ridden by Paige Roberts a close third in both classes. Brooks Forget Me Not then rounded off a successful campaign by winning the Cob Type from Horatio, ridden very confidently by Laura Butler, with Spirit and Shanita in third place. The other outstanding performance throughout the day was that of That’s My Boy, beautifully ridden by Sophie Thompson and owned by Debbie Lavelle. That’s My Boy, as well as winning the Best Horse or Pony, also won the Show Hunter and the Best Family Horse or Pony from Dilys, ridden by Harriet Iles, with Summer and Paige Roberts a successful third. The Best Combination was a success for Dilys ridden by Harriet Iles with Summer and Paige Roberts and Horatio ridden by Laura Butler second and third respectively. The overall Show Champion (above left) was Jessica Lavelle and Brooks Forget Me Not, with Paige Roberts and Summer a worthy Reserve Champion. A very successful show and one we hope to hold again next year with perhaps an In Hand Ring as well. Riding Results Class 1: POTENTIAL DRIVING HORSE or PONY UNDER 4 YEARS. 1.
